      Mr. and Mrs. Frank Whalen, Kirfield have received the sad
      intelligence that their only son Pte. Joseph Whalen died of
      diptheria in a Japanese prison camp. Pte Joseph Whalen, 17 yrs.
      of age enlisted with the 1st Midland Regiment at the outbreak
      of the war and was with the Quebec Rifles when Hong Kong fell
      to Japan. He was prisoner at that time. The Post joins with the
      many friends in extending sympathy to the bereaved.
