1869 Victoria Co. Rural Directory:
Jane Fee E 1/2 Lot 13 Con 1 (3/4 mile south of New Britain Rd. on Elm Rd.)

Jane McNerney Fee was the first burial in St. Luke's Cemetery (of which (Peggy Nielsen's) my GGGrandfather gave four acres of his homestead land for). What makes this so special is the fact that she was not only the first but also Irish in a predominately Czech community.

Howard Irwin, "Catherine the Great", 1951
Francis was buried in a little Anglican Cemetery four miles west of Purdy Mills, now called the town of Lindsay. Jane's Mother, Catherine, spent more and more time with her in her sorrow. Pioneers usually take the shock of losing their mates stoutly. She was not left in destitute circumstances but the going was to be quite difficult for a few years.
She weathered the storm like a veteran. Jane Fee was always a beautiful woman, perhaps the lines and curves of her beauty that blessed her youth were less evident but they were never entirely erased. Catherine and Jane made one more unsuccessful effort to recover the lost estate left by her brother. It was the same old story. The fortune was being eaten up on account of the continued litigation. The old white stone house may still be in existence in Glasgow. It was part of the Captain’s estate and was the place that James and Catherine stopped in while in Scotland. It was in that house that the idea was born to become Colonial settlers in Canada. That ends the tale of the lost estate. It was a racket in those days to swindle the Colonials who were far away across the sea, living in the wilderness.
The shock of Francis Fee’s departure was subsiding and normalcy was returning around the household. It was the calm before the storm. The news that Jane Fee had been converted to the Roman Catholic Church burst upon the community. It was also claimed that all the Fee family would follow her. The news was an event of events along the Little Britain Road. When the confusion died down it was learned that four of the children were not going to follow their mother in the transformation and for this record I will name them in this order: Mary Jane, Charles, Ann, and William Henry. Charles, sometime later married a Catholic girl and he accepted her faith. Catherine the Great had redeemed herself in the eyes of her church. She had planned to rehabilitate her daughter at the first opportunity and it almost took her a lifetime to do it.
MCNERNEY, Jane (I1067)

2808 The 1851 Census of Canada East, Canada West, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia shows James and Elenor Camick living with William and Sarah Millican (Milliken). This would lend credence to Elenor Milliken as a wife rather than Elenor Steen (although it does not rule out them being two separate wives of James Camick).

CAMICK, James (P139)

2809 The 1861 census has him as Church of England but at least 3 of the children William Jr., Belvi and Francis Albert were baptized in the Wesleyan Methodist Church.

2811 The 1901 census is the only census that makes the inquiry as to which year each resident immigrated to Canada (if applicable), and it states Margaret immigrated in 1844. If this is accurate, than Margeret would have been around 14-16 years old when she came here from Ireland. With her being only a teenager, it is likely she crossed the ocean with her parents. However, there is a slight chance she may have married Andrew shortly before leaving Ireland and then came to Canada with her husband. At this time, I do not know when and where Margaret and Andrew met and finally married. RAFFERTY, Margret (I048)

2816 The best thing about the 1885 Dakota census is that I found the O'Brien sisters that were taken in by the Fees after their dad had abandoned them. Katherine is with Michael Cayley and Catherine Fee. Elizabeth Ann is listed as L.A. (Lizzie A.?) OBren and is living with Columbus Fee. Bridget is living with William O'Keefe and Bridget Fee. However, she is listed as 14 (born 1871) in the Dakota census and I have her as being born in 1865 from Howard Irwin and 1866 from the 1871 census. O'BRIEN, Bridget (I4346)

2819 The birth registration indicates he was born out of wedlock.
In the 1881 census his surname is recorded as Dolan, while the 1891 and 1901 Census records his surname as Wylie. He was the informant of the death of Margaret (Rafferty) Wylie, in 1920, he indicates he is a grandson, and goes by William Jim Dolan.

His gravemarker in Victoria Road, has the surname WYLIE.

2820 The BLIZZARD, Oil City. Pa., Wed. Jan. 2, 1946-- Personals- p. 8,: Jerry Davies has returned to his home in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada after spending the holidays at the home of his wife's parents, Mr. & Mrs. J.P. Moffatt of Hasson Heights.

2821 The civil registration for the marriage of Norbert and Elize tells us that Norbert was born in St. Brunot(sic) , Quebec. In Quebec, there are two communities with the name Saint-Bruno, one is east of Montreal and to the south east of the Saint Lawrence River; the other is in south central Quebec just east of Lac Sainte-Jean. Norbert likely comes from the former community, as its history goes back as far as the early 18th century. The latter community appears to only begin to take shape in the 1880's. Norberts parents were Felix Levereaux and Celeste LaRoche. The civil marriage registration lists Norberts occupation at the time of his marriage to Elize as "voyageur", where as the church marriage record says he was a raftsman. By 1873 the days of the voyageurs was pretty much a thing of the past, and the fur trade was no longer the driving force of the Canadian economy that it once had been; where as the lumber trade was in its hay day, especially in northern Victoria and Peterborough Counties, and many men where employed driving squared timber rafts to market in Quebec. Norberts father-in-law, Joe Demoe(DuMont) was a foreman on the raft gangs. Taking all this into consideration, it is likely Norbert was a raftsman and not a voyageur.  LEVEREAUX, Joseph Nobert (I084)

While there she trained as a Head Nurse in Winnipeg. Returning to St. Joseph's in Parry Sound she was General Supervisor, supervising the operating room. She continued to work for another year at the hospital after it was designated a long-term care facility. 2828 The earliest record I have found of Joseph Demoe(DuMont) is in the 1861 census, where he has been recorded twice! At the time Digby Township in the north part of Victoria County, Ontario was being enumerated, Joseph was a foreman in a lumbercamp in that township. His family is not in Digby with him. Joseph is also recorded in 1861 in Fenelon Township, Victoria County where he and his family reside. Either Digby or Fenelon must must have been enumerated at a later date than the other to account for Joseph showing up in both townships. Joseph shows up as well in the 1871 census. He is with his family and is still residing in Fenelon Township. Besides his wife, there were four children in his home, they are: John, age 15; Eliza, age 12; Joseph, age 8; Mary, age 5. I do not know if the Joseph(age 8) and Mary(age 5) are the children or, possibley the grandchildren of Joseph and his wife. Although the couple is still young enough in 1871 to expect them to be parents of an eight and a five year old, they already have two children named Joseph and Mary who are both grown and married. One other possible explanation is the custom of many French-Canadien families to name all their children either Joseph or Mary out of reverence for the earthly parents of Jesus; then use the childrens middle names to distinguish each child. Unfortunately the records of Joseph, his wife and his children are spotty and at times conflicting, making it difficult to create a complete and accurate outline of Joseph and his family. Also I should note that Joseph is mentioned in Watson Kirkconnells book "County of Victoria: Centenial History", where the author mentions that the Demoes were among a group of French Canadian families who had settled in the north part Bexley Township, and had come to the county to work in the lumbering operations. He goes on to mention that "old Joe Demoe" had been a foreman of square timber raft gangs which travelled from Bexley to Quebec.  DEMOE, Joseph (I066)

2832 THE JEROME MARCHILDON FAMILY

I, Jerome, son of Tom and Matilda Marchildon of
the Lavesta District, was born in the Rimbey dis-
trict in 1911, farmed for a short time on the W 35-
42-3-W5 owned by Mrs. L. Thorp of Bentley, now
owned by Jim Tona. In 1942 I married Georgia
Becker, daughter of Joe and Nora Becker of the
Fuller School District. And in 1944 we bought the
S 26-42-3-W5 from Mrs. J. D. Keith, Sr. Here our
three children were born.

Connie was born in September of 1943, and is
married to Gilbert Lechelt. They live in Edmonton
where they both work for Swift Canadian. They
have two girls.

Gary born in December of 1945, married Linda
Shaw of Rimbey. He is an Electrician working out
of Rocky Mountain House. They have two children.

Donna was born in August of 1949 and is mar-
ried to Bob Pecharsky of Rimbey. They live on a
farm by the Rimbey Gulf Gas plant. Donna teaches
school in Rimbey.

We farmed this land through the years taking the
good with the bad. Our farm has seen a mixture of
chickens, pigs, milk cows, feeder steers, hay and
grain crops. With all the work, I still managed to
go on an annual hunting trip, and if we didn't
come home with any big game, we always had
plenty of tall tales to tell. Hunting, fishing and
camping are still a favorite pass time for us, and
we often make it a family affair now with our chil-
dren and grandchildren.

Our son-in-law and daughter, Bob and Donna Pe-
charsky rented our land in 1981. In the year 1978
we sold the County of Ponoka eight acres of land
for a new Cemetery for the Rimbey District. So in
the end, we won't have far to go.
