  • Genealogical Notes
    • STONG, Frances A lifetime of love in the hereafter began at 1 p.m. Tuesday April 14th when our mother, Frances Stong left this earth to join Bruce, her beloved husband, who died in 1998. Born Frances Renton in Long Branch, now a suburb of Toronto, on March 21st 1924, Mom met our father at the age of 13, at a roller skating rink in the west end of Toronto. He walked her home that night and every night thereafter for 57 years. They married in June 1942 when she was 18 and he was a 20-year-old sailor. After living in Quebec, Nova Scotia and Ontario, the couple moved to Ottawa in 1956 and settled in North Gower in 1971. Frances leaves behind four daughters: Susan (Brian) Bragg, of Arkansas; Wendy (Freddie) Burrows, of Ottawa; Bonnie (Gary) Bowen, of Victoria B.C. and Robin Stong (Don) McGuire, of Ottawa. Grandchildren are Samantha, Katelin and Treyman Burrows of Toronto and Stephanie and Chelsea Bowen of Victoria. Mom's surviving sister is Mary Fielding of Toronto. Many cherished nieces, nephews and their offspring live in the Toronto area and Florida. Our extended Ottawa family includes nephew Mike Renton, his wife Myra and their children & grandchildren. Frances, a warm and loving person believed there was always room at her dinner table for those without or those far from home. Friends may say farewell and visit with the family at the Kelly Funeral Home, 3000 Woodroffe Avenue (Barrhaven) Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Saturday at St. Brigid Church, Manotick, for Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. The family would like to thank the staffs of the Queensway Carleton Hospital and the Prince of Wales Manor for their kindness and their care of our mother. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/ottawacitizen/obituary.aspx?page=notice&pid=126277990#sthash.p6ZGHs0y.dpuf
