      MERIDIAN, Idaho - Mass of Christian Burial for former Wyoming resident Spencer L. Connell, 85, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 22, 2006, at Holy Apostles Catholic Church in Meridian. Graveside services will be held at a future date at Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton.

      A Rosary Vigil will be held at 7 p.m. at the church.

      He died April 17, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital in Boise, Idaho.

      He was born in Eau Claire, Wis., on Aug. 10, 1920, to Walter and Mattie Connell. He moved to Michigan in 1940 and served in Europe during WWII. He married Bernice Doyle Moore in 1962 and moved to Riverton in 1963 with their family of 10 children. Their son, Brian, was born in Riverton in 1964.

      They were members of St. Margaret's parish in Riverton for more than 28 years. He operated auto repair shops in Center Line, Michigan and Wyoming for more than 28 years.

      In the summer of 1975, he developed an auto repair program for Central Wyoming College and taught there as a professor for the next 13 years, receiving the Teacher of the Year award. He retired from the college in 1989 and was awarded the Professor Emeritus award the following year.

      While in Riverton, he was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and president of the Full Gospel Ministry for 15 years.

      In 1991, they moved to Pensacola, Fla., to serve as volunteers for Good News Ministry, a school for Catholic Lay Evangelists. They returned to Wyoming in 1993, moving to Sheridan, and became members of Holy Name Catholic Church.

      They moved to Meridian, Idaho in January of 2004, where they lived until his death.

      Survivors include his wife of Meridian, Idaho; his daughters; Patricia Minnick and her husband of Michigan and Mary Connell Decker of Idaho; his six sons, Dennis Connell and his wife of South Carolina, David Connell and his wife of South Carolina, Jerry Connell of Wyoming, William Connell and his wife of Wyoming, Kevin Connell of Nevada and Brian Connell and his wife of California; his brother, Myron Connell of Michigan and his two sisters, Verlyn and Jean, both of Wisconsin; 27 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Florence Wiegand; his son, Spencer Connell; his two daughters, Denise Connell Beck and Kathleen Connell Mentock; and his brothers, Walter Connell of Michigan, Clayton Connell of Wisconsin and Roland Connell of Wyoming.

      Services are under the direction of Accent Funeral Home, Meridian.
