  • Notes
    • The following are excerpts from the book, ' BRIDGING THE CENTURIES' , page 273, The William Ainsworth Family, as told by Harold Ainsworth... (circa 1967)
...we moved from Tyvan Saskatchewan to Portreeve district in 1913. ... the homestead was 14 miles north of Portreeve.
In about 1916 more of our family moved near us, - my sister, Laura, and her husband, Bob Grummitt, and Ethel and her husband Harold Brown. My brothers, Walter never owned land, but worked out. Bill homesteaded 0.5 miles south of Sam Hallett. He lost all he owned in a fire in 1920. He moved to Swift Current, then to Vancouver. He and his wife both passed away there. My dad died in 1920. Gordon then operated the farm. I left school to work out. Walter and his family moved to Ontario, where they still reside. Mother and Gordon remained on the farm until 1928. They moved to Regina, where Gordon married. Mother lived with them. In 1936 she suffered a stroke, from which she never fully recovered , she passed away in 1946. My sister Lillian, married Dennis Green, farmed at Francis, Saskatchewan, and then moved to Ontario. When I got the bug to move, I went to Pouce Coupe, British Columbia, took up a homestead, nearly starved to death, as there was no work to be had. I went back to Portreeve, met my girl friend, Velma Ross. We were married in 1936, and farmed the Bill Long farm. In 1942, we moved to Napawin, Saskatchewan, where we still reside.
Gordon now resides in Calgary, Mrs. Harold Brown lives in Regina, Sask., and Mr. & Mrs. Bob Grummitt , live in Princeton, Ill. U.S.A.
