Mrs. Etta Jordan, pioneer resident of Sawyer County, passed away on Monday, Dec. 29, 1947. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E.L. Bean, at Stone Lake, WI. Death was caused by a heart attack.
News of her passing came as a sad shock to relatives and a large circle of friends. She attended midnight mass at St. Philip's Church on Christmas Eve, and seemed as well as usual.
Mrs. Jordan was born "Ameretta Ellis" at Springfield, Dane County, WI, on January 19, 1857. Had she lived until next July, she would have been 89 years. She with her husband, the late William Jordan, who preceded her in death 20 years ago, moved to this community in the early pioneer days of Indian trails and ox teams, following his father, Michael Jordan, the first white settler in Sawyer County.
The deceased was a member of St. Philip's Catholic Church, Stone Lake; a member of the Third Order of Franciscans; an honorary and charter member of the Stone Lake Catholic Study Club; a member of St. Philip's Altar Society; a member of the American Legion Auxiliary; and an honorary member of the Stone Lake Women's Club. She had been active in these clubs and organizations almost up to the time of her death. Her kindly manner and sweet personality endeared her into the hearts of all who knew her.
