The earthly journey of IdaBelle Andrea (Vollmer) Currie, 89, of Spring Lake, MI, ended July 17, 2015. She was surrounded by family at Hospice House of Heartwood Lodge.
IdaBelle was born to Ludwig and Ruth Vollmer April 29, 1926 in Grand Haven, MI. She attended West Robinson one room school, graduated from Grand Haven High School, and studied audiology at Wayne State University. On April 25, 1946 she married Donald Currie at Sacred Heart Church in Muskegon Heights, MI. The joy of her life was her family.
IdaBelle worked for Michigan Bell Telephone Company, and was an Avon representative, and retired from Ottawa County Health Department in 1987, as a hearing technician. She was active with Girl Scouts and volunteering. In addition, she enjoyed homemaking, quilting, knitting, and traveling from the Rockies of California to the green mountains of Vermont.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Donald; children, Barbara (Robert) Dodde of Grand Rapids, MI, Donna (David) Michael of Sarver, PA, David Currie of AuGres, MI, Mary (David) Tait of Bloomfield Hills, MI, Marcia Bolks of Mesa, AZ; 13 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 3 step great-grandchildren; and one step great-great-grandchild.
Also surviving are brothers, Stuart Vollmer, George (Dina) Vollmer, Raymond (Nancy) Vollmer; sisters, Irene (Anthony) Maas, Ruth (Paul) Smeenge, Elizabeth (Jim) Walwood; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Ludwig and Lenore Vollmer; daughter-in-law, Karen Currie; son-in-law, Carl Bolks; and brother-in-law, Robert Walwood.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church of Spring Lake with Rev. Father Ken Schichtel officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at church. Interment will take place in Lake Forest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary?s church choir, the Diocese of Grand Rapids TV Mass, or St. Jude Children?s Hospital.
