      ROY THOMAS DEAD
Pte. Roy Thomas, a well known Port Credit boy, died May 9th after suffering multiple shrapnel wounds. he was 24 years old and had left Canada for overseas in July 1916. Pte., Thomas was a member of the Loyal Orange Young Britons. He is survived by his parents, one sister and a young brother.

He served with the Canadian Pioneers, 123 rd Royal Grenadiers and held the rank of Sapper. His name is engraved in the Port Credit Cenotaph, -- it reads- THOSE WHOM THIS MEMORIAL COMMEMORATES WERE NUMBERED AMONG THOSE WHO, AT THE CALL OF KING AND COUNTRY LEFT ALL THAT WAS DEAR TO THEM. ENDURED HARDNESS, FACED DANGER, AND FINALLY PASSED OUT OF THE SIGHT OF MEN BY THE PATH OF DUTY AND SELF-SACRIFICE. GIVING UP THEIR OWN LIVES THAT OTHERS MIGHT LIVE IN FREEDOM.
