CELIA MARGARET KIRKHOPE Celia Margaret Kirkhope died Friday, February 21, 2003 after a long life and a valiant struggle. She was born December 15, 1906 in Headingley, MB, the eldest child of Herman and Rachel Bush. She is survived by her daughters, Rachel Gretsinger and Anne Newton; her son-in-law Joseph Rewucki; her stepsons, James Kirkhope and his wife Pat and Robert Kirkhope and his wife Carol; her sister Jean Cunningham and Edith DeMarco; and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Gerald Vincent Hoban in 1953; by her daughter Geraldine (Hoban) Rewucki in 1990; by her second husband Robert Kennedy Kirkhope in 1996; and by her grandson Gerald Joseph Rewucki in 1998. Celia grew up and lived most of her life in Beausejour. She owned a restaurant there for many years and was an active member of the community. On retirement she and her husband Bob Kirkhope moved to Kelowna, BC for several years before returning to Manitoba. They both loved to travel and to entertain visitors and made many friends wherever they went. Celia did everything with determination and extraordinary energy and organization. She was fiercely proud of her family and her pioneer roots. She was strong-willed, hardworking, generous and survived much that would have defeated a lesser woman. Celia has left a legacy to be proud of to her children and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place. A private family interment will take place at a later date in the family plot at Beausejour Cemetery.
