"Hugh Duffy, who has been ill for several weeks, died at the home of his son, Walter, in this city, Monday evening.
In his passing, another name has been stricken from the ever lessening roll of our old settlers and pioneers.
As we were unable to get particulars, we will publish his obituary next week."

      SCR 12/17/1925
"Mr. Duffy was born in Ontario, Canada, July 17, 1854 and died in this city Monday, Dec 7.
He was married to Helen (sic) Rayburn at Eau Claire 42 years ago and came to Hayward soon after. To them were born six children, three now living, Clarence, Walter, and William. He has a brother and a sister living in California.
Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Peter and Joe Prince, nephews, of Bloomer; John Sullivan, Washburn; Mrs. AE Woerle, Chippewa Falls; Mrs. TD Goodrich, Ladysmith; Hugh Duffy, nephew, Eau Claire.
Funeral services were held at the Catholic Church last Friday, Father Seeboth attending.
In the passing of Hugh Duffy, our community has lost one of its best known and highly respected citizens. He was one of the first to demonstrate that farming was profitable in this section and acquired a broad and deep knowledge under conditions that would have discouraged many younger men of today. Mr. Duffy was numbered among our earliest settlers. He was employed by the North Wisconsin Lumber Company as a sawyer in their big mill for 27 years.
He was always greatly interested in politics but never took an active part.
His ideals were high, his convictions unchangeable, his influence for good extensive. His family may be reconciled in their deep sorrow by the memory of his faithful serviceable life."
