Notes
Cora was born in the Township of Ryde in January 31st 1890 and moved to Bracebridge with her parents George & Jane Brooks when she was 5 years old. She attended school in Bracebridge.
April 11th 1912 Muskoka Herald...Brief reference was made in The Herald last week to the marriage on 3rd instant at the home of the bride's parents, Mr and Mrs. Geo. Brooks, of their eldest daughter, Miss Cora, to Mr. Peter McNaughtan, son of Mr and Mrs. Dan McNaughtan, Rev. G. C. Rock, conducting the ceremony. The bride was assisted by Miss Myrtle Gibson and Mr. Neil McNaughtan supported his brother. The groom's gift to the ride was a gold watch and chain, to the bridesmaid a pearl ring and to the groomsman a pearl tie pin. After the ceremony a very tasty supper was served and later Mr. and Mrs. McNaughtan left on the night train for Toronto and Hamilton. They returned Wednesday evening and a reception was held at the home of the groom's parents. The happy young couple, to whom the best is wishes of very many Bracebridge friends will be extended, will make their home on Victoria St. next to Mr. John Carr's. Mr. and Mrs. McNaughton were recipients of many gifts, showing the esteem in which they are held.
For some years they lived on Victoria Street and then moved to the farm home in Muskoka township just below the town on the river. She and Peter had 11 children:- Carman, Ronald, Willard, Mary, James, Donald, Ellen, Ian, Shirley, Peter Jr. Kenneth and Phillip. Ronald drowned in the Muskoka River in May of 1933.
Cora was a kind wife and mother and one of the most popular young women of Bracebridge. Her interests were centered around her family. Cora died in 1940. She had been ill a short time when she suffered a stoke. After resting in bed for some weeks she was almost recovered from the effects of the stroke when she suddenly collapsed on a Thursday evening at her home while talking to her brother in law Neil McNaughton of Parry Sound who was visiting. She was taken at once to Bracebridge Memorial Hospital, but did not recover consciousness. Death came shortly before 8 o'clock Saturday morning. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church with interment to St. Thomas Cemetery, just north of town.
