Helen was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada to Jesse and Maude McMullen. She later moved with her family to Spokane, Wash. Helen graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane. After graduation she went to work at the National Youth Administration. She made coat and quilt patterns that were sent to Russia. However, this didn?t last long as her adventurous spirit brought her to Conrad to help her Aunt Gladys Pauli. It was during this time that Helen met her husband, James Eugene Dabney, while he was delivering milk to the house for Quality Dairy. Gene and Helen were married Aug. 11, 1938. They bought the Sober Up Ranch by Dupuyer and started to raise their family. The Sober Up Ranch became a sheep herding business where they averaged 3,000 head of sheep. They later moved with their children to a farm near Pendroy where they continued to raise sheep and cattle. Gene and Helen divorced and she returned to Newport, Wash. In 1953 Helen married Ben Fowler and together they operated the Harbor Resort on Diamond Lake until his death in 1973. After his death she married Alfred ?Popeye? Rose. They moved to Conrad to be closer to Helen?s family where they managed the Missile Apartments.
Helen had a love for music and enjoyed singing and playing the electric guitar. From the time her children were little she taught them how to sing and harmonize. Those who knew and loved Helen will always remember her for her quick wit and salty humor.
Survivors include her daughters, Darlene Rosman and Jean (George) Egan both of Conrad, and Diana (Dennis) Depner of Boise, Idaho; her sons, Bob Dabney of Overton, Nev., Bill (Enid) Dabney of Deer Lodge, and Jim Dabney of Hardin; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Arnold McMullen and Dick McMullen both of Spokane; and a sister, Edith Ernst of Spokane.

On Jan. 10, Helen entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior. Earth holds no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal.
