McMULLEN, Arnold Allen (Age 91) Passed away on February 28, 2010 in Spokane, WA. He was born on July 19, 1918 to Maude and Orlo McMullen in High River, Alberta, Canada. He came to the U.S. at the age of two. He attended schools in Spokane and received his diploma from John Rogers High School. After school he joined the U.S. Marine Corp and served in the Pacific Asiatic Area during World War II. After serving in the military Arnold worked in the sheet metal trade for several shops and later opened his own heating and air conditioning business for several years. He then became a Mechanical Inspector for the City of Spokane until he retired in 1983. He and Bea then became snow birds traveling to Tucson and Yuma, Arizona and El Centro, California for 17 years where they met many longtime friends. Arnold loved golf, fishing, hunting, camping and traveling. Also he hardly ever missed any Seahawks and Mariners games and always watched Gonzaga basketball. One of his favorite pastimes was having coffee at the Donut Parade with his friends. Music was a big part of Arnold's life. He played accordion professionally at various clubs around Spokane and Idaho. In later years he played the keyboard which he loved and had a lot of sing alongs and happy times. Arnold was a loving and caring father and husband, a man of great character, compassion and wonderful sense of humor and a ready smile. He never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed. Arnold was a life member of the VFW Post 1474 and Eagle Aerie #2. He was also a member of Inland Engineers and Inspectors Association for many years. He is survived by his wife Bea of 32 years; daughters Penney Worsham (Jim), Charlene Fletcher (Chuck), both of Spokane, Diane Morris (Bud), La Quinta, CA; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister Edith Ernst; brother Richard McMullen, Spokane; numerous nieces and nephews. Arnold is preceded in death by his wives Bessie and Irene; parents; sisters Helen Rose and Maretta Christensen; brothers Myron, Norman and David McMullen; stepson Dennis Garvin. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of Spokane for their kindness and compassion to Arnold and the family. Also thanks to the outstanding staff and Royal Park Care Center for their wonderful care of Arnold. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Sunset Chapel located on Fairmount Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested for Hospice of Spokane, PO Box 2215, Spokane, WA 99210 or a charity of your choice.
