Eleanor E. Troyer passed away at Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles on September 19, 2014, due to kidney failure. She was finally relieved of suffering from the complications of colon cancer after a five-year struggle that became especially difficult in the last several months.
Mrs. Troyer was born in Ephrata, Washington, on June 20, 1917, to George E. and Otelia (Hepperle) Keller. She moved to Port Angeles at the age of 5 and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1936.
Mrs. Troyer was a cashier at the Elwha Theatre for a number of years. She married Miles R. Troyer on March 24, 1944, in Boise, Idaho, while he was stationed in the Air Force at Gowan Field. While there, she worked at the Kress Variety Store.
After the war, they returned to Port Angeles, and she worked at Pacific Telephone Company as a telephone operator until 1950.
Mrs. Troyer enjoyed her family, television game shows and music. She was an avid reader until macular degeneration made it difficult to see the print. She had a wonderful sense of humor.
She was a devoted wife and homemaker, always putting her family first.
Survivors include one son, Terry; sister Alta Wilson; brother Warren Keller; and sister-in-law Thelma Marvin, all of Port Angeles, as well as two nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Miles, after 62 years of marriage; her parents; a brother-in-law; a sister-in-law; and a nephew.
Visitation at Harper-Ridgeview Funeral Chapel, 105 West Fourth Street, Port Angeles, will be today, September 24, 2014, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
A funeral service at Harper-Ridgeview on Thursday, September 25, 2014, at 1 p.m. will be followed by a graveside service at Mount Angeles Memorial Park, 45 Monroe Road, Port Angeles.
