    • GOWANLOCK, JAMES ARTHUR: born May 20, 1955--48 years - In Canmore, Alberta, on October 14, 2003, at home with his beloved Lynda by his side, Jim passed peacefully into the welcoming arms of Jesus. Left to mourn his passing with wife Lynda, is his mom, Mildred Brown Gowanlock, his son Matthew, daughter-in-law Kristy and grandson, Jeremy, his daughter Katie, and sister Linda Lyn Dale Scott Turner. Jim also leaves Lynda's mom, Kay Wood Calverley, his sisters-in-law Brenda George, Beverley, Georgina Don, Heather Brian, Sheila, and brother-in-law Bruce. Jim had many nieces and nephews who are also feeling the intense pain of his loss. Lovingly remembered by his Aunt Jean and Uncle Mercer and many cousins. His dearest friends, Jerry and Perry Blaeser, Gary Young, Mike Petroff, Gord March, and John Booy will miss him profoundly. Jim was predeceased by his father, George Andrew Gowanlock, in 1981. Above all, Jim loved his family, and he demonstrated that love daily. He was a loving husband, a patient and dedicated father, and an adoring & worshipping grandfather. His grandson, Jeremy, was the light of his life. Jim was extremely proud of his family, and they of him. Jim touched everyone he met. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a kind and gentle soul, with a forgiving, passive nature and a quick wit coupled with a great sense of humour. He had the most engaging smile, and he loved to make people smile along with him. He had a great sense of community, and was involved with various committees and organizations in the Valley that he loved so much. ,For 20 years, up until 1998, Jim co-owned Bow Valley Construction along with his partner and friend, Mike Petroff. Many of the structures in and around Canmore and Banff are testament to the many years that Jim dedicated to the building industry. After leaving the construction company, Jim briefly owned and operated a service station, but ill health forced him to discard his plans to continue with that, so he decided that he'd like to find a position that would accommodate his health issues and his ambition. Jim found his niche with Can-Bow Motors. He had a second family with the Can-Bow Motor team, and Ken Sr. and the rest made it easy for him to love his job. He thoroughly enjoyed the car business, and flourished in his ability to meet and greet people. He had a way of making his clients feel comfortable and important, and that earned him GMAC Top Salesman of the Year in both 2000 and 2001. He was so proud of those awards! Next only to his family, Jim loved his fishing and hunting. He was an avid sportsman, and an active member of Ducks Unlimited Canada. Jim felt very strongly about preserving the land and it's natural inhabitants so much so that Jim has arranged that a Junior Achievement Award be presented in his name, to the most deserving young recipient annually. Jim has asked that there be no formal funeral. Instead, a celebration of his life will be held at the Radisson Hotel, Conference Room, Hwy 1A, Canmore, at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 20, 2003. In lieu of flowers, Jim has requested that donations be made to Ducks Unlimited Canada, or a charity of your choice.
