      "Whereas there has been deposited in the General Land Office of the US, a Certificate of the Register of the Land Office at Falls St. Croix, WI, whereby it appears that pursuant to the Act of Congress approved 20th May 1862, 'Tho secure Homesteads to actual settlers on the public domain,' and the acts supplemental thereto, the claim of John Raburn, has been established and duly consummated in conformity to law for the North East quarter of the North East quarter of Section Two, in Township twenty-five of Range fourteen, in the district of lands subjected to sale at Falls St. Croix, WI containing forty-seven acres and twenty-two hundredths of an acre, according to the Official Plat of the Survey of the said land survey of the said land returned to the General Land Office by the Surveyor General." Ulysses S. Grant was noted as President, signed the first day of April, 1873. (the 97th year of Independence)

      John Rayburn, a white male, occupation farmer, age 79 years, 7 months, 13 days, father was James Rayburn of County Loude (Louth??), IR and mother was Elizabeth Mooney (born St. Johns, NB--probably not). John's wife is names Rosanna Boyle. He was born on August 30, 1826 in County Loude (Louth?) Ireland. He died March 13, 1903 in the Town of Waterville of "old age." He is buried at St. Henry's Cemetery in Eau Galle, WI.

      From the Pepin County Courier, March 20, 1903:
      John Rayburn, Sr., one of the pioneers of Eau Galle, died at his home in that town on Friday last, aged 79 years. The funeral was held on Monday. Mr. Rayburn was one of the early settlers of Eau Galle, and was held in much esteem by a large circle of friends.
