ATHERLEY--Nov. 21, 1916
Mr. John Thomas Mahoney, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. James Mahoney, died suddenly at Dawson City, Yukon, on Friday, November 17. The news when it reached was a great shock to the family and friends. Mr. Mahoney was in poor health for nearly a year, but in a letter received shortly before his death he stated that he was much better and hoped to be able to come home for Christmas. He said he would come out by the trail route early in December. On Thursday, however, he suffered a stroke and died the following day. The late Mr. Mahoney was a native of this place. He had been away for twenty years, being home on a visit nine years ago. He was a resident of Dawson City for eighteen years, going there first as a miner and later entering business in the city. His remains were buried at Dawson City on Monday morning. He was unmarried and is survived by four sisters and two brothers, besides his parents. The brothers and sisters are: Mr. James Mahoney, Mrs. John Duffy, Mrs. P. Cosgrove, Mrs. Frank Clark, all of Uptergrove, and Richard and Margaret, Atherley.
