WAS CAUGHT IN HIS MACHINE WHILE WORKING ON PETER COX'S FARM, AT UPTERGROVE.
LEAVES HIS WIFE AND NINE CHILDREN.
HE LIVED ONLY TWO HOURS AFTER THE ACCIDENT.
A tragic accident occurred at noon on Monday on the farm of Mr. Peter Cox, Uptergrove, when Albert Fountain, of Uptergrove, was caught in the drive belt of his threshing machine which he was operating on Mr. Cox's farm. He became so badly entangled in the machine that it stopped running. The driving belt had come off the grain separator, and Mr. Fountain put it on while the machine was running. His arm was caught and his body was wound round the shaft.
Mr. Fountain was a friendly man and was known and liked by a large number of people not only in his own community, but in a wide area. He has operated threshing machines for years and will be missed. Great sympathy is felt for his wife and family in their great and sudden loss.
Mr. Fountain was taken to the Soldier's Memorial Hospital after Dr. J. P. Rogers was called, but he lived only two hours. Mrs. Fountain was shopping in Orillia at the time and friends went in to find her. Dr. W. E. Brown, Coroner, decided that an inquest was not necessary.
Mr. Fountain was born in North Orillia 58 years ago, and was the son of James Fountain and Rose Boyle. Twenty-one years ago next November he married Irene Clark, daughter of John Edward Clark and Annie Corrigan, of Uptergrove, and they have resided in Mara ever since.
Besides his wife he is survived by his father, and nine children, Edward James, John, Albert, Michael, Teresa, Anna, Kathleen, Ivan and Yvonne. He also leaves two brothers, Harry and William of Uptergrove, and six sisters, Mrs. Actsel (Sarah) of Detroit, Michigan, Mrs. Thomas McDermott (Mary) of Toronto, Mrs. Roddy Harrigan (Florence), of Brechin, Mrs. John Harrigan (Winifred) of Kirkfield, Mrs. Thomas Clark (Louisa) of Uptergrove, and Margaret, of Orillia.
The funeral was held on Wednesday when the Rev. Father Nealon sang mass in St. Columbkille's church, and interment took place in St. Columbkille's cemetery.
The pallbearers were nephews, James Actzel, of Detroit, and James Alexander Fountain, Patrick Clark, Thomas J. Clark, Thomas E. Clark, all of Uptergrove, and Jiard Harrigan of Brechin.
