    • Mr William Watson bannerman
      A well known and respected resident of East Gore Mr William Watson Bannerman, of Nelson Street passed away last weekend.Mr Bannerman had had a long connection with the finn MacGibbon and Co Ltd.Born at Gore 71 years ago .he was a son of the late William and Mallie Bannerman of Whiterig.He received his schooling at Gore School and on the completion of his schooling he assisted his father on the home farm for a number of years.He later worked on other district farms, among them being those of A. & R.Byars and mr Alex mcNab and for a period he was engaged in shearing and threshing activities.On coming to Gore he first took up employment at Burrows Brothers nurseries and it was just before the first World War broke out that he started the connection with MacGibbon & Co Ltd.,that was to last till the time of his death.he was with the firm 37 years and for the past 12 years he was manager of its East Gore branch. Mr Bannerman took little intrest in the affairs outside his private sphere. His principal hobbies were racing and trotting and for many years was a member of both the Gore Racing and trotting Clubs.A large portion of his leisure hours was devoted to the care of his garden. Mr Bannerman married Miss Johanna Mee of Otama and he is survived by his wife and family of one daughter ----- May (mrs Richardson,Gore); and four sons -- John (InvercargilI); Andrew ---(Fairlie); Bruce­(Otama); Robert-- (Gore). He is also survived by three brothers and one sister.

      BANNERMAN---- On Sunday july 1 1951 at Gore.William Watson ,dearly belved husband of Johanna Bannerman,8 Nelson Street East Gore aged 71 years.The funeral will leave the residence 8 Nelson Street east Gore on Tuesday July 3 1951 at the conclusion ofa service commencing at 1.30pm for the Gore Cemetery.

      William Watson Bannerman was a kind and loving family man. He loved playing cards and Horse racing. He never critized others. William was also one of Gore's Bookies.
      Witnesses to his marriage were; Margaret A McBain (cousin of the Bride) and John Lawrence Bannerman Labourer (Brother of the Groom)
