    • Mary was the mother of sixteen children, seven of which died young.
Mary lived with her son Patrick & family until her death at the age of 87 years

      THE ORILLIA TIMES
      UPTERGROVE---March 23, 1911
Again it becomes our duty to chronicle the death of one of our most highly respected residents in the person of Mrs. Jeremiah Clarke. Taken ill suddenly a few days before her death . She seemed to know that death was near and begged of Him who comforted and sustained her through life to grant her the happiness of being surrounded by her family whom she loved so well. Her wish was granted. She died a peaceful and happy death, strengthened by the rites of her holy religion and her family kneeling around her bedside on March the sixteenth at the age of eighty-seven years. She came to Canada in 1842 from the County Leitrim, Ireland accompanied by her husband and infant son, she being only eighteen years of age. A while after their
arrival they took up land at Uptergrove, and in 1862 death took her husband by accident.
Left alone a young widow with nine children on whom she bestowed her most devoted and tender care, bearing her many trials in a spirit of fortitude and resignation. She was the mother of sixteen children. Seven died when young. Of the nine surviving ones only seven remain at present, three sons and four daughters, and sixty-four grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren. She lived her whole life in the old home, with her son Patrick, till death claimed her from the home she so well loved.
Grandma Clarke will not soon be forgotten.
Her many acts of kindness and loving disposition won her many warm friends. Friends attending funeral from a distance were Mrs. W. D. Ross and son Daniel J., also grandson Master Willie Mullick, of Buffalo, N. Y., and Misses Dora and Agnes Mahoney, of Toronto. Interment took place on the eighteenth at St. Columbkill's church, Uptergrove. Requiem Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Father Sheridan. After her remains were borne to the grave by six grandsons, viz. P. Mahoney, Jas. Clarke, D.J. Ross, M. Doolan, Wm. Doolan, and Patrick Corrigan, then a sweet, fond, and devoted mother was laid to rest beside her husband, who predeceased her forty-nine years ago.
