  • Genealogical Notes
    • Margaret Duffy was born in Brock, Ontario, Canada. No record seems to exist of her birth or baptism. She was the eldest of 11 children born to Patrick Duffy and Anna "Nancy" Corrigan. Given Irish naming patterns, it is likely that she was named for Patrick's mother.

Her parents and most of her siblings seem to have moved to Wisconsin in the late 1870s and early 1880s. Margaret and her daughter Margaret were mentioned in the Superior paper, visiting Ford relatives, and in the Lake Nebagamon paper, visiting Ginder relatives.

      Stanley Republican 4/17/1916
"Margaret Morrison, wife of Murdock Morrison, departed this life at the home on Frank Street early Monday morning after a lingering illness, aged 72 years. Having been a resident of Stanley for 23 years, she was one of the best known and best beloved of all Stanley pioneer women.
Margaret Duffy was born near Toronto, Canada in 1844. She was married to Edward Grogan at Erie, PA in 1870, and to this union ten children were born, eight of whom survive, viz; Edward, Thomas, Peter, William, John, and Charles, all of whom live in Milwaukee except Charles, who lives in Chicago, and two daughters, Mrs. Emmerton of Bloomer, and Mrs. Jas P. Burns, of Portland, Oregon. After the death of Mr. Grogan she was remarried to Murdock Morrison, who survives her, in 1893.
The family moved to Stanley about 1890, and the splendid character of the boys and girls whom she raised to manhood and womanhood proves Mrs. Morrison to have been a woman of unusual strength of character. She has played well her part as wife and mother, and is entitled to the highest honors which can be accorded to woman.
The funeral was held from St. Mary's Church Friday morning, the six sons acting as pall bearers, and her remains were laid to rest in Forest Hill in the presence of a large concourse of old neighbors and friends."

"Those from out of town: Mrs. James Burns, of Portland Oregon, the only daughter; Charles Grogan of Chicago, IL; John, Peter, William Grogan of Milwaukee, sons; Mrs. F. Ginder of Minneapolis, a sister; High Duffy, a brother, of Hayward.
Mrs. E. Porveis, Mrs. Charles Emmerton, John, Joseph, Peter, William and George Prince of Bloomer. Hugh Corrigan of Eau Claire, all cousins.
      Hugh Duffy, a nephew.
Mrs. Thomas Grogan, Mrs. Peter Grogan, and Gertrude Grogan, all of Milwaukee.
Mrs. William Prince and Mrs. George Prince of Bloomer.
Mrs. Morrison's son James of Portland was unable to be present."
