Dad (Hank) farmed all his life. He and Mom (Myrt) worked together and laughed
together. They had a mixed farm plus added a small abattoir for poultry to the farm
in 1962 which they operated until 1971. He drove us all to sports countless days,
keeping us involved in activities. He was an excellent softball pitcher and played
with many local teams. He loved to fish and hunted all his life. He was always
involved in the farm although to a much less extent in the past few years. He was
always out to see what was going on in the fields and pastures riding on the
combine right up to his last days. He witnessed the change from actual horse power
to mechanized farming, from seeding with horses to air-drills. He was amazed by
the size of today’s equipment and always compared them to multiple rounds with
an 8 foot one way. He always watched the cattle and took great interest in the new
born calves. He was always there to lend a helping hand to family, and neighbours
throughout his life. He always called to check on what we were doing and was
genuinely interested in what others were doing as well. He loved to visit with
people-especially at the post office. He usually had a joke to tell. His driving
slowed but never his desire to be out and active. He was very independent and did
not want to be taken care of. He cooked countless combinations in his crock pot,
sometimes we were afraid to ask what was in it. His death is the way he wanted itactive
to the end.
The family wants to extend a very sincere thank-you to the nurses, staff and Dr.
Ernst who made his last days as comfortable as possible. Thank you to Pierre and
Barb Charpentier for guidance and professional services and Reverend Hills and
UCW for their services. Also a sincere thank you to those that took him fishing and
kept an eye out for him making sure he didn’t get stuck on the ice. Finally, thanks
to family and friends for the gifts of food, flowers and donations made in memory
of Dad.
