SUPERIOR GIRL BECOMES BRIDE
Miss Eva Somerville Married to Hayward Man at Pretty Church Affair
"At a pretty church wedding which took place this morning at nine o'clock, Miss Eva Somerville, daughter of Mrs. Alice Somerville, 2002 Ohio Avenue became the bride of Walter J. Duffy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Duffy of Hayward. The ceremony was performed at St. Patrick's church, Billings Park by Rev. JM Markey.
Miss Somerville's only attendant was her sister, Miss Pearl Somerville who wore a dainty dress of peach colored silk and carried a bouquet of shell pink ophelia roses tied with pink ribbon. Sherman E. Murray of Washburn attended the groom.
The bride was charmingly gowned in white charmeuse satin with ornaments of rhinestone about the neck, sleeves, and forming a design for the dress. Her veil, which was caught about the head and forming a train was of lace. She carried a shower bouquet of white Killarney roses and lilies of the valley.
Following the ceremony a reception was held at the home for the bride's mother for members of the family and a few intimate friends. The color scheme of pink and white was carried out throughout the home by large baskets and vases of pink and white asters.
Mr. and Mrs. Duffy left on a motor trip through southern Wisconsin en route they will stop at Oshkosh and New London and will be at home at Hayward after October 15.
Mrs. Duffy wore a dark blue suit of tricotine with box coat and a small hat of sand colored silk velvet upon taking her departure.
The out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Duffy, parents of the groom, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pastika, Hayward; Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Worhl, Eau Claire, Oscar Lindholm, Hayward, Sherman Murray, Washburn.
Mrs. Duffy is a graduate of Superior Normal and has taught for the last three years in the Douglas County schools. Mr. Duffy is the Register of Deeds of Sawyer County.
Among the parties given for Miss Somerville was a miscellaneous shower at the home of her sister, Mrs. D. Boyle. Several guests were present. Red and white decorations were used attractively about the room.

JUDGE WALTER DUFFY DIES AT AGE 80
"Funeral services for Hayward pioneer resident Walter J. Duffy, 80, a former county judge for many years, who died at his home on Wednesday, May 12, were held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Saturday, May 15, celebrant Rev Father Edward J. Theiler officiating at the Mass. Interment followed in Greenwood cemetery. Rosary services were said at the Anderson Funeral Chapel Friday afternoon.
A life-long resident of Hayward, Judge Duffy served as the Sawyer County judge from his election to that position in 1937 until his retirement in 1961. Prior to that he served in the elected capacity of Register of Deeds from 1921 to 1931. He also worked as an abstractor in the Hayward Abstract and Title Co. firm, and at one time, taught in the county elementary school system.
Born August 11, 1895 he attended school in Hayward and was a graduate of Hayward High School. He was a veteran of WWI. On September 29, 1925 he was married to Eva Somerville at Superior. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Thomas, John, and Michael, all of Hayward; four daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Delores) Peterson, Hayward, Mrs. Edward (Mary) Hudock of Franklin, IN, Mrs. Earl (Patricia) Walsh, Depere, WI, and Mrs. Richard (Mable) Patrick St. Paul, MN; and 42 grandchildren. Judge Duffy was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Grandsons served as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the Association for Retarded Children of Sawyer County."
