CONN, HELEN EILEEN _(nee Black) passed away May 23, 2005 in her 95th year at Wolseley, Saskatchewan. Helen was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Jesse Black, her beloved daughter, Georgia Leslie Conn in 1964, her husband Dr. Leslie James "Bus " Conn in 1981, and her dear sister Georgina Mary Softley in 1998. Helen is survived by three generations of nieces and nephews. Her memory will be cherished by family and many friends for whom she was a role model as "Aunt ", "Nana ", teacher, leader, and neighbour. Helen was born in Chapleau, Ontario June 2, 1910 and moved to Eyebrow Saskatchewan in 1912. She completed her public schooling in Eyebrow, attended Normal School in Moose Jaw, took classes at the University of Saskatchewan and subsequently taught primary grades in Moosomin, Maryfield, and Broadview. Dr. Bus Conn and Helen were married July 2, 1938 and during WWII, Helen taught grades 1&2 in Wolseley. As a teacher, she always brought energy, innovation, and dedication into the classroom. Helen was also involved in dance, ice skating, Girl Guides, Eastern Star, and the United Church as a primary teacher. After the birth of her daughter in 1946, Helen continued with an incredible amount of community involvement that was to span 50 years. This included ice shows, Library Board, School Board, dance and skating lessons for the children of Wolseley, Sunday School, High School floor show, English as a second language for new Canadians, Tourist Bureau, and avid Roughrider supporter. She was honored publicly for much of her work. Helen lived and embraced life, even through tragedy, always was a passionate Canadian and Saskatchewanian, a believer in children and youth, and an advocate of literacy. In lieu of flowers, please give to the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank all the staff of Lakeside Home in Wolseley for providing wonderful care and a happy home for Helen in her last months. Thank you to Dr. Bella-Lufu for his care.
